N395HC started it's life in 1962 as a U-10B.  It remained state side while most were shipped off to Southeast Asia.  After being converted for civilian use and designated a Helio Courier H-395, it was meticulously rebuilt by Dave Holzschuh of Corpus Christi TX in 1996.
A 295 horsepower Lycoming GO-480 turns a large 96 inch 3 bladed Hartzell propeller through a reduction gear box.  Cruise speed is around 125mph on skis and has an approach speed of 45-50mph.  15 gph burn and 120 long range fuel tanks gives an 8 hour endurance.
Just to make things interesting Helio Couriers also come standard with full span Handley-Page leading edge slats, interceptor blades(spoilers), 40 degree slotted fowler flaps and a stabilator.  They all work together to get in the air and on the ground in the shortest distance possible.
I acquired 5HC in the summer of 2005.  Once in Alaska 29" Alaska Bushwheel tundra tires,  Landes 3600 wheel skis, Reiff engine preheater, and EDO-3430 floats were added.
