The plane I fly is a 1956 Cessna 180. It’s the second 180 I’ve built up from a wrecked aircraft. The previous owner who wrecked it said he used 900ft of an 800ft strip .It tore the left gear leg out and damaged both wings and the tail when it went on its back.

The plane has an 0-470 K engine with an Odessy battery installed on the firewall and has the Reiff pre-heat system installed. It has the Sportsman STOL kit and I’m in the process of adding the Wing-X STOL kit which extends each wing approx. 18 inches and for this model of 180 also increases the gross weight 400 lbs. The plane is equipped with Monarch aux tanks giving a total usable fuel of 91 gallons. It has an Alaskan Skycraft belly pod rated at 300lbs max load and a low profile Mike Petrie style extended baggage. I use the wide Schnieder penetration wheel skis/with 850 tires and has a federal tail ski. The plane is float kit equipped and has an 88’ McCauly  2 blade seaplane prop. With the new Wing-X mod the plane will have over a 1200 lbs useful load on skis. It has an ECI fuel flow and a Garmin 295 hard wired in an mounted on the dash. This is the third 180 I’ve owned and find the 180 to be the best all around personal airplane for Alaska . Combined with a Supercub its all a guy needs to have fun flying in Alaska .
