 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

 When you are at least five miles from a checkpoint village where you propose to land, announce your arrival on the CTAF frequency found in the ALASKA SUPPLEMENT and on the aeronautical charts. When landing at places such as Yentna Station, Finger Lake, Rainy Pass, Rohn, Ophir, Iditarod, Eagle Island, or Cripple use the frequency 122.9.  Also listen to 122.9 and the Iditarod frequency (120.6) when flying along the Trail.

 Air carrier traffic at altitude may also be reached through the Anchorage center frequencies that are monitored in a particular area.  VHF line of sight communications is often possible with aircraft at the higher flight levels (330 - 410) from a great distance on the ground.  These frequencies are listed in alphabetical order for all of Alaska in the Alaska Supplement under Anchorage. Several of the frequencies appropriate to the Iditarod area of operations are listed below:

Logistic Coordinators and Assistant load coordinators need to be aware of the current weather in their area of control. The following information should be used as Official NOAA and FAA weather reports and forecasts.
