N4038Y is a 1961 Cessna 185A.  It was the very first A model built; the 238th Cessna 185 off the assembly line.  It spent most of its life in the midwest before coming to Alaska in the 80's.  It has had a long list of modifications performed including a recent Bonaire IO-550 engine upgrade and ART wing extensions that boost its gross weight to 3525.  MLJ's custom extended baggage and Atlee Dodge seats allow it to carry a hefty load of supplies or quickly be configured for passengers.  My wife and I acquired the airplane in 2007 and flew its first season with the Iditarod Air Force in 2008.
